5 Ways Your Intranet Can Engage Remote Workers

5 ways your intranet can engage remote workers part 7 of 8 of effective intranet series

Creating an effective intranet to engage remote workers creates new challenges. With varied IT literacy, multiple browsers, language, confidentiality, device security and accessibility being just some of the issues, remote workers have very specific needs. Here we look at ways we help engage remote workers. If you would like to find out more about how to create an effective intranet download our free guide.

5 ways Your Intranet Can Engage Remote Workers:

1) Keep it familiar
Remote colleagues are far more likely to engage if what they see when they login is familiar to them in terms of colours, branding and layout.

2) Icon led
Some remote workers may need to access the intranet remotely through touch screen devices, so recognising this by introducing icon led navigation might really enhance their user experience.

3) Content Variation
Working remotely can make employees feel isolated from the rest of the business. Varying the content to give insight into what’s happening across the business is a great way to connect your employees and encourage engagement.

4) Widen the use and contribution
To help ensure the intranet is adopted by remote workers and they continue to be engaged, you might like to think about widening the use of the intranet with additional applications that are essential for everyday business. Broadening the number of colleagues that contribute content is also a great way to further engagement.

5) Instant Access
Remote workers should be taken straight to the intranet when they login. A single login will ensure that they will have to engage with the intranet as it will be the first page they see.

I hope you have found this useful. If you have remote workers, how do you engage them and keep them up to date with company news? I’d love to know your thoughts. If you would like to read more, download our free guide on how to manage your intranet.
